The first game we ever sold was Monster RPG 2 for iOS. To date it's also still the most successful game and platform. Nowadays we're developing for many platforms and often overlook mobile a little bit. Not that there are any plans to ditch mobile. Crystal Picnic was designed primarily to be played with a controller though, and our next game is still in development, where it's easier to work on PC.
Crystal Picnic 1.9.8 has been released. This version contains a few small fixes and new options as listed below. This release is for all supported platforms. It's available most places already with the rest following soon.
I've just released a small update of Crystal Picnic for Macs only. The update has an Advanced Effects checkbox in Video settings that turns on and off a few expensive shader effects. By default they are on, but on some old Macs with Intel GMA graphics processors you need to toggle this off to get playable framerates. With the option off, the game should run on any Intel Mac at good speeds.
I finally got an Android 2.3 device. Our games didn't work (immediate exit.) That has been fixed. I'm in the process of publishing the updated games to Amazon, Google Play and itch.io.
Crystal Picnic and Monster RPG 2 are now back on the Amazon Appstore! Anyone who owned the games there before can access the up-to-date versions. I plan to add achievements to the Amazon ports to bring them up to speed with other ports. The games are also coming to Amazon PC/Mac soon!
Version 1.9.1 of Crystal Picnic for iOS and Mac OS X is on the way. It is a bugfix release that addresses the following issues:
Monster RPG 2 2.12.2 is on the way, starting with iOS and Mac OS X. It's mainly a bugfix release and has the following changes:
Monster RPG 2 2.12 is now available for Raspberry Pi! Some of the same changes that were made for Crystal Picnic 1.9 were done for M2, increasing the average FPS to near 60 FPS. The Raspberry Pi release was slightly older than the others so there were a few other changes that made it into this release besides optimizations.
Crystal Picnic 1.9 is on the way with an absolute ton of performance optimizations. The idea was to get the Raspberry Pi port up to standards, and it's now running great! The improvements will be nice for owners of other systems as well such as mobiles.
I just submitted an update to Crystal Picnic on Google Play that enables achievements using Google Play Services. The achievements are the same as the Steam version. The version number is 1.8.5 and it should be available over the next couple hours.
Crystal Picnic is now on Steam! That was quick. We got Greenlit on Friday and now available in the store on Monday! Thanks to everyone who helped get the game Greenlit and Valve for providing a great service. Keys are coming soon for bundles, this site and itch.io. The making of this game has been wild... not even going to go there... but it's great to finally be on Steam! Thanks for the support.
This morning Crystal Picnic was Greenlit on Steam. We were not very high up in votes so it was a nice surprise. I'm not sure if Valve Greenlit a lot of games or if they just picked us specially, but whatever the case, I'm glad they did. I've got a lot of work to do now. First I want to add about 10 achievements to the game. Unlike Monster RPG 2, most of them will be real achievements and not just events that happen as you play through the game that are mostly guaranteed to happen. I'll probably have trading cards added before releasing the game this time, too.
The wiki from the old website is back at http://nooskewl.ca/wiki. This includes the Monster RPG 2 Strategy Guide which some people have been looking for. If you use the wiki, please let me know of any technical problems. Another thing you should know is that the development section is out of date... Not sure when I'll have time to update it. Those two things comprise most of the content.
I'm excited to announce that Monster RPG 2 is now available on Steam. The Steam version includes 30 achievements and it sells for $1.99 USD. Steam keys will be available for buyers on this site and the Groupees bundle we are a part of soon.
I found out when I awoke this afternoon that Monster RPG 2 had been Greenlit. We were sitting at #70 with 952 yes votes (49%) last I checked. Thank you to everyone who voted. Now I'll be working on integrating the achievements from the iOS version with Steamworks.
Thanks to coercion from people at Groupees, Crystal Picnic is now back on Steam Greenlight. We hope to get the game approved and add some Steamworks stuff. Check it out and vote if you want to!
The Android port of Monster RPG 2 received a bugfix update today that fixes an issue with some letters not appearing in text on certain devices. Other ports of the game are not affected. The update is now live on itch.io and is propagating on Google Play.
I've just re-released demo versions of Crystal Picnic. Here is the link:
What better way to start the week than a new release? Crystal Picnic 1.8 is now available! New in this version:
Monster RPG 2 2.11.7 is being released for Android and iOS. It has a fix for a movement bug: if Tap-and-Go movement and the View: Centered setting are both enabled, tapping to move does nothing. This bug was overlooked as I tested View: Centered with d-pad movement enabled.
Crystal Picnic 1.7, while incorporating some small miscellaneous changes, also fixes a rather bad oversight that could lead to players needing to back-track a long ways. Without revealing spoilers, the player could get to a point that they needed something they didn't have if they went a certain way.
