Review: The Outer Worlds

It's not too often that I pick up games on release day. The previous time I did was for Fallout 4 - a game I ended up not liking much. Then The Outer Worlds came along. I wasn't sure if I would grab it right away, but I did. And it turned out to be one of my favourite games I've ever played.

I've been a fan of Obsidian since Fallout: New Vegas, although that was the only game of theirs I'd played. But it was also one of my favourites so I had to give The Outer Worlds a shot.

The Outer Worlds feels a lot like New Vegas, yet it's different in many ways. New Vegas is a bigger, longer game and The Outer Worlds is more focused. I like them both for what they are. However, even though I loved New Vegas from the get-go, and played it fairly heavily for a while, I found myself unable to put The Outer Worlds down until I finished every available side quest. It took me only 3 sittings (one of which was over 20 hours) to finish.

There's a lot that can be said about the game, and many others have said everything already. All I can say is I haven't had as much fun with a game for as long as I can remember; I felt like I was a kid again for 40 hours. Thanks Obsidian, you hit it out of the park. There will be some who don't like it, for bad reasons or just personal opinion, but if you are asking me I couldn't recommend it more highly. Just get it!
