Monster RPG 3 - A Review

I've already posted my review on Steam, but I thought I'd bring up my thoughts here. So, I *just* beat Monster RPG 3, after about 5 hours of playing. I will say, although the graphical/audio quality took a disturbingly hard drop, I was able to look past it. Only complaints I really have are that some of the music is a bit hard on the ears, and that the magic animations were a bit too long (For both the player and the monsters).

OTHERWISE, the gameplay was pretty much flawless! I liked that there was little emphasis on grinding (Mostly just farming gold for the weapons/armor), and more focus on overcoming the battles with what you were given. The weapons felt useless for the most part though; because of how powerful the mobs were, I was pushed into using my spells a lot. Not necessarily a bad thing, though; that's what made the fights more interesting.

Overall, I would still recommend Monster RPG 2 to my friends, more so than 3. But for me personally, they're both pretty good in their own unique ways.

Thanks for the review! You're right, this was mostly a one man job so several areas are not as good as Monster RPG 2. Interesting that weapons are of little value, I hadn't really thought of that but you're right, they are weak compared to spells.

I'm just happy to have some feedback as it has been rare on this game. Many things I could have done better! Glad you could see past the flaws and enjoy it though. For the new game I'm working on I'm trying and will continue to try to get more people playing it before the release, so more problems can be fixed ahead of time.

I'll use some of this feedback for the new game too such as keeping animations short. The music may still be a problem if you didn't like it in M3. There are a couple other problems I'm aware of and going to try to fix. Anyway, thanks a lot for the great feedback!

Glad my review was helpful! I'm looking forward to your next game!

Yeah, I had quickly assumed M3 was made with a smaller team. Regarding the music, I did just revisit some of the areas, and the tracks that really stand out as "bothersome" are the village and haunted mansion tracks; they both have this high-pitched tone that I found harsh on my ears. The drum noise in the village was especially hard to listen to. Otherwise, the rest of the music wasn't actually terrible.

Thanks, I'll be careful with high pitched sounds from now on.
